Finding the right sofa to match your living room
Few home investments are more significant than finding the perfect sofa. It can be the hub of activity; a place where you eat, drink, entertain guests, and sometimes sleep while bingeing on your favourite show on Netflix. What’s absolutely certain is that you need to think carefully about what kind of sofa to opt for, because it’ll be a part of your home for a fair while. With that in mind, here are a few things to remember when it’s time to make a decision.
In our experience, the first step to finding the right sofa to suit you is figuring out which colour to go for. This is highly dependent on the rest of the living room — you want your sofa to be a complementary colour, but bold enough to make a statement and be a focal point in the space. The best way to handle this is to have a look at the colour wheel, find the prevalent shades of your living room, and check which shades will work best accordingly. You can play it safe with a neutral colour, like grey or cream, that suits just about every room. Alternately, go for a more daring option on the opposite side of the colour wheel, perhaps opting for a bright and bold colour to turn your sofa in the room’s main feature.
Once that’s sorted, fabric choice should be the next thing on your mind. This could be a bit more complicated than the colour selection process, just because you need to consider both your lifestyle and who will be using the sofa. If you have young kids or any pets then we’d suggest you stay away from velvet, chenille, tweed, or silk options. These are generally more delicate and difficult to take care of and clean. Instead, look at more durable options like leather, which can both be vacuumed and easily wiped clean. Wool is also worth considering as it ages well, resisting wrinkles and piling. Of course, each fabric comes with its own cost, so you should expect to pay more for silk than for leather.
