Famous chefs and their home kitchens

It stands to reason that any culinary pro would only settle for the best when it comes to kitchen design! Even the most famous of chefs needs a cosy “cook nook” of their own at home where they can treat their loved ones to delicious family feasts or mouth-watering snacks. As leading providers of kitchen furniture in Malta, the team at Carmelo Delia shares some of the most elegant kitchens belonging to celebrity chefs.

1. Guy Fieri

Fieri’s Californian home is one that he has lived in for over decade, with a custom-made kitchen measuring 900 square feet. Originally built by his father over the course of a year, the room boasts counters made of barn wood, a huge Viking gas burner, his-n-hers refrigerators and the crowning glory: a foot-pedal sink. According to Fieri, nothing is more disgusting than touching a tap with your hands full of raw chicken and greasy food! We find it hard to disagree...

2. Ina Garten

The so-called “Barefoot Contessa” believes that the kitchen is the new living room, which would explain the unusual decision to include a fireplace surrounded by easy chairs. Garten emphasises on comfort in the kitchen, seeing as it’s where many spend most of their time when at home. Other elements which stand out include a Caesar stone countertop, a sink without compartments and open shelves; everything is designed for simplicity and convenience, blending traditional and modern concepts.

3.  Julia Child

Although America’s first celebrity chef passed away in 2004, her kitchen (which was designed by her husband) is now on display at the National Museum of American History in Washington D.C. Having introduced French cuisine to the U.S., it’s no surprise that everything in Child’s kitchen exhibit is perfectly organised, from pots and pans to hooks and peg boards, showcasing the concept of mise en place.

4. Bobby Flay

The former Iron Chef owns a home in East Hampton, New York, which has not just one but two kitchens – one indoors, and one in the backyard. The latter is something of an outdoor oasis, complete with a bocce ball court, a pool and a brick pizza oven.

5. Mario Batali

When Batali and his wife combined and remodelled two apartments in Manhattan, they prioritised leaving as much room for the kitchen as possible. And they certainly succeeded – the room has enough space for a 10x3-foot peninsula, an outsize counter, a pantry and even a walk-in refrigerated wine-storage room that’s 5 feet wide and 6 feet long.
